Chairman of the Chair

$150

This here is a very dramatic-looking piece of furniture. Is it just the unusual angle that creates the suspense, or does this old chair hide secrets? Chairs are boring and quite passive objects, but the people in them do the darnedest things!

This chair was made in Quèbec sometime in the fifties and then made its way to the federal government offices in Ottawa. Then it was decommissioned and our friend bought them at a government surplus auction. I got it from him when he was renovating, and it came with us from Ottawa to San Francisco and now back to Toronto. It's going strong at 70, and I think it'll easily do another 200. It's a good, solid chair of reputable character. If any chair deserves to be immortalised on canvas, I think this one does.

The friend recently let it be known he wishes that he kept the chair. See? Drama!
